  • Should my child attend the first session I have booked for them?
When attending your child’s initial appointment, it is recommended that you attend this appointment without your child. This allows the opportunity to discuss concerns regarding your child openly, without potentially negatively impacting your child. Future appointments will involve the psychologist spending the majority of the session with your child, with the opportunity for a parent check in prior to the session and a parent debrief at the end of the session, if appropriate.
  •
I have heard there is homework assigned when attending sessions. What does this mean?
Homework is the opportunity to practice skills and strategies discussed in sessions, in the real world. It allows you/your child to work out what works for you and what doesn’t. Discussing this in sessions can assist in determining why the skill or strategy did/didn’t work and build on these skills and/or offer alternative solutions, if necessary. Ultimately, the goal is to build skills and strategies that work for you and your situation.
  • Do you provide documentation for court and/or legal services?
Our Therapy Place does not provide any reports or letters regarding any legal matters and are unable to conduct child custody evaluations, parental capacity assessments, development of parenting plans, or family assessments/reports for family court. • How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)?
Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) can be issued by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.
