How long does the session go for and how often do we attend sessions?

Each session is typically 50 minutes. Session frequency will be discussed at your initial appointment. Normally, they are booked in fortnightly, but can be anything from weekly to monthly.

Do I Need A Referral?

No, you do not need a referral or diagnosis to see a psychologist at Our Therapy Place.

How does the Medicare rebate apply to me?

If you would like to receive a Medicare rebate for your session, please see your GP for a Mental Health Care/Treatment Plan. With an eligible referral, you are entitled to receive a rebate of $98.85 for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Following your first 6 sessions, you are required to see your GP for a review to discuss your psychologist’s recommendations for the additional 4 sessions.

Please note that Medicare does not cover cancellation fees.

Do you provide documentation for court and/or legal services?

Our Therapy Place does not provide any reports or letters regarding any legal matters and are unable to conduct child custody evaluations, parental capacity assessments, development of parenting plans, or family assessments/reports for family court. Our Therapy Place can refer you to someone more experienced in this area.

If Our Therapy Place receives a subpoena by a court of law, we are obligated to respond, and will provide the required documentations to the court directly.

What type of clients can access your services?

MHTP – clients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan will receive a Medicare rebate for 10 sessions per calendar year.

NDIS - Our Therapy Place will see NDIS clients who are either plan managed or self-managed.

Private Health – Our Therapy Place will see clients covered for psychology through their private health fund. It is up to the client to ensure they are covered. You will need to enquire through your private health fund as to the amount you will be rebated as it varies with each different health fund/policy.

Private – clients who wish to attend and may be ineligible for Medicare rebates or don’t have private health insurance.

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP)?

Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) can be issued by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. When booking, you will need to ensure the practitioner is aware that you are booking for the purpose of obtaining a MHTP, as these appointments are usually longer and more comprehensive to ensure appropriate care and to complete the paperwork. Sometimes, you will be given the MHTP to bring along to your initial appointment with your psychologist, or it may be sent directly from the practitioner to your psychologist.

What is the cancellation policy?

You are required to give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel your appointment. If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice or fail to attend your appointment, you will be charged a full fee cancellation fee. There is no Medicare rebate for cancelled or failure to attend appointments.
